Today's count is 3 bullets in one load of laundry. These are just a couple glimpse of my current life.

Since I last updated my blog, a lot has changed. At the beginning of April I moved to a different province to start a new job. I put my condo on the market, looked for a new place to live and moved in with my brother and his family.

In May I found a condo near my brother's family. It was under construction, so I was able to select the finishes. Late in June I accepted an offer for my condo and late in August I moved my possesions into storage here.

I love my new job. I work for my brother and his partner as office support and production analyst. The business is in construction. A few months ago there was a major flood in the area, creating a lot if work in the industry. Needless to say, work is busy.

My current status is as such. I am currently still living with my brother, his wife and 3 boys (ages 6 & 3). My new condo should be ready in a couple of months. My computer has not had a reliable connection to the Internet, and I doubt it will until I move out. I take my oldest nephew to his piano lessons and supervise his practicing. I go on dates with my nephews. I have joined the local stitching guild. I don't stitch much (see nephews above). There isn't a day the boys don't make me laugh. I miss my old life, but I know I can have a good one here.

Well I did Wordless Wednesday for a while (and I hope to do it some more in the future) but today I thought I would do Flashback Friday. Here are some pictures from over 6 years ago, back when this was the only little boy in my life.

I started the year with 7 projects in my WIP pile. I am very pleased to say that 6 of them are done and I've worked on the 7th. Of course, this is the internet, so if there are no pictures, it didn't happen so here we go.
Quick story bout the last two - they were for my nephews who are now two. When I was at their place at Christmas I saw them hanging in their bedrooms for the first time. So I told Curly I had stitched them and he thought that was cool. Then later I told Easy I had stitched them and we went and looked at Curly's and Easy said "you colour that one too?" I told him I had and asked him if he had seen Stinker's? So we went and looked at that one and he asked me the same question again. I thought it was so cute how while I told him I stitched it, he interpreted it as colouring. Which is a pretty logical leap to make.

So in summary 6/7 done, 4/7 framed, 3/7 given away. I also managed to post every month even if it was to say I hadn't stitched. And as they say - that's not all. Let's take a look at what from the New Starts list got done. (All of these pictures indicate current status.)
My life is full of little boys! Not a little girl in sight. And they all come in sets of three!
First there are my nephews - Stinker, Easy and Curly.
Next is my CSB (Cross stitch buddy - i.e. cousin and best friend) and she comes with three boys - R, L & F. (Need to figure out internet nicknames for them, I could use their family nicknames, but I have a basic philosophy that I want the boys to talk to me when they are teenagers. The real curious can find their mom's blog in my reading list).
Then my BFF and her husband become foster parents a year ago in October and their first placement is a girl! Okay this could work. But the little girl is just with them weeks and then they had two boys - Lion and Tiger. Then in June they get another little boy - Bear.
They are all 6 and younger. My life is full of little boys! And Lego. And vroom vrooms. And choo choos.

6 out of the 9 all on one couch
Curly - October 2012Raychill Canuckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09627485323239911736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30264715.post-18119836903298220372012-11-20T23:42:00.000-06:002012-11-20T23:42:38.913-06:00Stinker and Auntie At Home DepotA few days before my brother and SIL came for Thanksgiving (a week late, but that's another story) mom found out about a kids activity at Home Depot to build a fire truck. She signed Stinker up and it fell to me to take him.

When we got to Home Depot there were tables set up with little kits to build a fire truck. We also found out that a real fire truck was coming and would be parked out front for us to check out after we were done the build. So Stinker and I got down to work.

Look how official we are with our orange apron

Time to get down to business - it's important to watch what you are doing when working with a hammer. My contribution was mostly to get the next block placed where it should go.

I'm not a big fan of using my camera for videos, but he was doing such a great job with the hammer, I just had to get the action too (note him playing the director and the actor).

The finished job - note at some point I wrote his name on his apron - he now looks official.

Now it was time to check out the fire truck parked outside.

He doesn't look small very often anymore, but he does here.

The fire truck even came with live firemen to talk to.

Auntie goes for the "artistic shot"

Since I'm up here, I might as well check out the view from this side.

Afterwards we picked up fruit smoothies at Tim's and we didn't forget about the littles - they got fire hats and smoothies too.
Well more like three months. I could be saying that to make me feel better about the amount of progress this month, or lack thereof.

Finished
I took a stitching workshop one weekend this month that my stitching guild holds once a year. There were two different projects, a canvas piece and a Hardanger/blackwork piece. Right now I don't consider the Hardanger/blackwork piece a WIP since I don't have any immediate plans to work on it. However the canvas piece isn't WIP either, since it is done.

I will finish it as a scissor case (eventually). But for now it's done. It is designed by Carol Storie (who was our instructor for this workshop) and you can find here webpage here.

2. Happy Go Lucky
No real change, just a few more French Knots on the poodle. I didn't even take a new photo this month.

3. My Way
Filled in some more border. This piece has also been re stretched since something in the last month the frame came loose.

New Starts
1. Lost in the Garden - no change
2. Victorian Blooms - no change

3. Stars of the New Millennium - I ordered another overdyed to see if I liked it for this project. I'm hoping to have it this week so I can take it with me on holidays next week.

Oh, Look Shiny!
Nothing this month, but I plan to do some shopping while on holidays next week.

I've mentioned my holidays. I'm going to spend the week with my cross stitch buddy and we plan to watch TV and stitch all week. Maybe the progress will be epic in next month's update.

Until then, happy stitching.

Finished

Nothing again this month. I mostly started things this month. When you consider everything that has been completed this year, it makes sense that at some point I would have to start things so that I would have things to stitch.

In Progress
1. Lily of the Valley
I continue to make progress with this one. The part I like about this is if I get stuck during the week working on it (mistake made, can't figure something out) I just put it aside knowing that I will take it to Thursday stitching and it will get jump started again. The boxes are also great for gratification while stitching these - a few hours and you have completed something.

Last month:

Once again slow progress as this is my take to meeting piece.

Close up of latest square completed (I did this when I was sick of doing French Knots).

Close up of Poodle still in progress.

3. My Way
Well, now my options on this piece are really easy and somewhat tedious or need to think a lot. I have to either complete the border (tedious) or the 2 squares I'm designing. You can see that I've made progress on both of these, but it will continue to be slow as they are both time consuming.

Close up of completed square (maybe my favourite square on this piece - I like the density).

Close up of square that I'm designing. Don't get too attached to the blue bit in the centre, it's going to get ripped out.

Closer up of the stitch I chose for the squares on this piece. Doing this made me happy - I've loved the stitch since I saw it somewhere on the Internet and it worked perfectly in the space I wanted it to go.

Just Started
1. Fairy Moon
I started this on my retreat last weekend. It's at the typical blob of stitching in the middle of the fabric stage right now.

Close up

2. M is for Mother

I started this at a stitch in hosted in the common room of my condo for all the representatives from the western region of the national stitching guild I belong too. More progress was made at the stitching retreat. This one avoids the blob aspect by having small motifs that look like something after a couple hours of stitching.

To give a sense of scale:

New Starts
1. Lost in the Garden - hope to have canvas ready for this soon
2. Victorian Blooms - hope to have canvas ready for this soon
3. Stars of the New Millennium - have the canvas. I have also made my overdyed thread selection. Now I need to pick all the colours/threads for this. I need to find a few hours where my head is in the right spot. This SAL (stitch-a-long) has started this month, so I will be a bit late, but I won't be the only one.

Oh, Look - Shiny!
A couple things may fall in this category. First of all is the project for my guild. It's a small canvas piece that should be fun and quick to do. The second is a pattern I've fallen in love with and hope to procure in the near future - Starburst Flag of Canada (you will have to scroll down - it's the 3rd one).

That's all for this month folks. Now I'm off to install more RAM in my new computer and get it set up.

Happy Stitching!
As I said in my last post I was at a stitching retreat and I got this great picture of the full moon. It's not my WIPocalypse update, but it is a full moon post.
(sorry the picture is sideways, apparently I'm having technical difficulties with posting from my phone)
I have taken pictures, but need my computer to download them. I was really looking forward to this month's update because I just came back from a weekend stitching retreat and started some new things. So stay tune. Once I get a new computer and get it up and running, there will be pictures and a real update.

I'm still liking how well this WIPocalypse process has been for me. I've completed most of the WIP's I had at the beginning of the year and now I'm having fun starting new projects. Stay tune for more entries this month. Sorry for no pictures - I know I'm breaking the cardinal rule of blogging that requires having a pictures for every blog entry.Raychill Canuckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09627485323239911736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30264715.post-27182254583591214272012-08-30T22:30:00.001-06:002012-08-30T22:30:09.111-06:00Full Moon - Ninth Moon (Blue Moon)Wow - this has been the year of special moons - there was a Super Moon in May and now a Blue Moon. This is also the second time this blog has acknowledged a blue moon. The last time was in January 2010.

As always - enough blather onto the stitching update.

Finished
There is nothing in this category this month, the closest a came was a "mini" finish on one of my WIP's (more details below).

In Progress
1. Lily of the Valley
This one saw some ups and downs this month as it took some re-counting and ripping to get the squares in the right spot and the right size. I also spend an entire evening this week ripping out one colour of the left hand leaf as it was one stitch over. This will really come alive this month, because once the centre panel is done, the razzle dazzle starts and it comes together quickly

Last Month

2. Happy Go Lucky
This one saw very little attention this month - I worked on during one meeting this week. This is the perfect project for meetings as it doesn't require following a pattern and there is no counting.

Last Month

3. My Way
You have no idea how happy I am to be working on this. The colours make me happy. The silk thread make me happy. The stitches make me happy (mostly - right now I'm not too enthusiastic about the wrapped fan stitch that I've just started). This is the one that I just about had a mini finish on in that if I had done the wrapped fan stitch, I would be finish the last square designed by the designer. I have to design the final two squares.

Last Month (and last year)

New Starts
1. "M" is for Mother - no change
2. Fairy Moon - my fingers are starting to get itchy to start this, so it may be part of next month's update.
3. Lost in the Garden - hope to have canvas ready for this soon
4. Victorian Blooms - hope to have canvas ready for this soon
5. Stars of the New Millennium - have the canvas. My order arrived, the only thing missing was the overdyed thread I needed for this project. Need to call the store and find out what is going on (and why they are ignoring my e-mail)

Oh, Look - Shiny
Nothing in this category this month - again. Which is good because I'm looking forward to starting the projects listed above.

Now I should go. I'm tired and there are "miles to go before I sleep"

Happy stitching.
I've been out of town, all of my out of town friends have been in town.

I however did have some evenings of quiet to stitch and even a couple of opportunities to stitch with friends (hi Megan!)

Finished
1. Once Upon a Time
I did spend some time outside of Thursday evening this month working on this. Mostly because I'm a bit behind my other co-horts who are stitching this at this time.

2. Happy Go Lucky
I didn't include this in my last month's update but I did spend a little bit of time on this in June. I spent some more time in early August while stitching with Megan. This is a great piece to take for social stitching since if the squares are ready (coloured, know what's going in them, etc.) they are quick and easy to stitch while chatting.
Last Month (well, minus the hair)
No Progress
1. My Way - this is the last month this will see no progress. Last night I pulled out the pattern and the material. Today I hope to start stitching it again.

New Starts
1. "M" is for Mother - no change
2. Fairy Moon - no change
3. Lost in the Garden - hope to have canvas ready for this soon
4. Victorian Blooms - hope to have canvas ready for this soon
5. Stars of the New Millennium - have the canvas and have some more overdyed thread on the way to check out. Hopefully in the next week or so I'll be putting together my threads to order for this project. October will be here soon.

Oh, Look - Shiny
Wow, nothing in this category this month. I've been too busy.

As usual, hoping you all happy stitching. You see them? You remember them that way? (For those who are having trouble visualizing, check out the previous post.) Good - that's exactly where they are this month. I have not had time to stitch since my last update. My three nephews are in town until Sunday so my life currently consists of getting up, going to work, coming home and changing and then heading over to my parents until they are all in bed (the boys, not my parents, though dad was in bed before I left one evening). The exceptions are days were I don't work and I go over for 8 in the morning and spend the entire day with them.

The one exception to the not stitching is the project I'm working on with my oldest nephew, I got the idea from Amy Powers and here is the piece Stinker and I are working on:

Next we are going to stitch around the tie and then the ears. Oh, and he's supposed to look scary - so he can scare away the monsters.

So until next month when there are 2 full moons and hopefully more to show off, happy stitching!
Raychill Canuckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09627485323239911736noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30264715.post-32522928783966072022012-06-20T22:50:00.002-06:002012-06-20T22:50:25.236-06:00Full Moon - Sixth MoonWow this is late! I really don't have much in the way of excuses. I was out of town the first weekend of the month, but other than that it's just been the normal busyness. I have written blog entries in my mind, but they are not getting out into the blogosphere. But for now, here is the update.

Finished
1. Nephew's T-Shirts - This is a bit of a cheat because I started them June 16th so they are stealing a finish from next month's update. As you can see I could only find grey t-shirts not blue ones. Hopefully next year the colour I want will be available and I can buy a few years supplies.

2. Lego - The Robie House - I know this isn't stitching, but one weekend after I finished frogging the dove out of Once Upon a Time I took a break from stitching and finished this.

In Progress
1. Once Upon a Time - as you can see, the dove is back in and the castle is reaching for the sky again. Now I think it's realistic to finish this by the beginning of August.

2. Lily of the Valley - a small start and the beginning of slow progress. At this time I'm only committing to working on this Thursday evenings. This marks one evening of work.

No Progress
1. My Way - I think I took it out of the bag once this past month. Will not see serious attention until Once Upon a Time is completed.

New Starts
1. "M" is for Mother - no change
2. Fairy Moon - no change
3. Lost in the Garden - hope to have canvas ready for this soon
4. Victorian Blooms - hope to have canvas ready for this soon
5. Stars of the New Millennium - hope to have canvas ready for this soon, also have ordered some overdyed thread and am thinking about colour choices.

Oh Look Shiny...
1. Happy Go Lucky Sampler - I've signed up for an online workshop taught by Amy Powers at Big Picture Classes and it starts tomorrow. I hope this is going to be a fast easy stitch, especially since the nephews are here visiting starting on Friday for the next two weeks.

So until my next hopefully more timely update - happy stitching!Raychill Canuckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09627485323239911736noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30264715.post-18378128180890724652012-05-11T16:25:00.001-06:002012-05-11T16:25:58.243-06:00Supermoon - Fifth MonthIt was super moon this month! I didn't get to see it as it was overcast and raining/snowing in Medicine Hat where I was for the weekend for a cousin's wedding. It was a blast, but it meant that this entry is laaaaaaate.

Enough with the prologue and on to the important part - what got done and where are the pictures?

Finished
1. Newborn Joy
Once again, I met the deadline of having it done in April - it was completed on April 28th. Since this piece is for a little boy, I changed the pink roses to yellow (some of the roses were yellow originally, but now all are). The yellow was a suggestion from the mother - also a cross stitcher. I was campaigning for purple, like I did for my nephew's Rosebud Lullaby. I have to say, I'm really happy with the yellow. Now this is added to the list of HD posts I need to do. I dropped this and the blackwork pansy off at my framer's today.
In Progress
1. Once Upon a Time
The first thing I did when I picked this up again (best estimate is I put this down in the summer of 2010) was to put in a couple of stitches. Then I ripped out those stitches and did some counting. Then I've spent the last two weeks taking out the dove that was almost completely stitched that was stitched OVER ONE. For other people who cross stitch, you will understand my horror. Instead of one stitch, I had to take out 4 tiny teeny stitches. I was using a beading needle instead of a tapestry needle so I could get between the thread and the fabric. As of last night the nightmare was over. Here is the backwards progress as it stands right now.

In my fantasy world this would be under the finished category next month.

No Progress
1. My Way - can you believe that on my original WIPocalypse list that this is the only one so far that hasn't gotten anything done on it? I keep talking about it - there were 14 of us that took the workshop in the fall of 2010 and there are 4-7 of us that aren't done yet. One of these days....

New Starts
1. Nephew's T-Shirts - no progress on this because I still haven't found the right shirts. Anyone know where I can find light blue T-shirts in size 3 and 6? I am willing to order them online.
2. "M" is for Mother - fabric is purchased
3. Fairy Moon - no news
4. Lost in the Garden - no news
5. Victorian Garden - no news

Oh Look Shiny...
Remember way back in the past (the first WIPocalypse entry) I left a line for anything new that caught my eye that wasn't on the original list. I think it's time to give it a separate section after this month. I'm committing to new projects all over the place - mostly canvas.
1. Stars for the New Millennium - my favourite online stitching group (hi Wagoneers) is starting a SAL (stitch-a-long) for this project in October. I held out as long as I could because of the unfinished My Way that is similar to this project, but on March 28th my resolve weakened and I ordered the pattern. For those who are curious - here is the best place to see pictures of this pattern - Pinterest Board. The designer is Anthony Minieri. I'm in the process of deciding on colours and thread. This should be a fun adventure.
2. Lily of the Valley Collage by Laura J. Perin - I meet with my local stitching friends every Thursday evening for a stitch in. A few weeks ago one of the ladies started bringing in this project, but was getting frustrated with it since she was having trouble with miscounting it. One of the other ladies mentioned that she would love to do it as well as a SAL. I chimed in that I love the piece as well (it's my "birth flower") and would be interested in joining as well. Another lady has it all kitted up so it looks like there will be four of us working on it together. We will start as soon as the canvas arrives. For those who are curious, you can find it on the Secret Garden Collection page - scroll down to Lily of the Valley Collage. By the way, this isn't the only piece in this collection that I love.

So there you go, the latest and greatest update. I hope you all good stitching this month (and no frogging).
Overall I have to say I made good progress, but I would have loved to see more.

Finished
1. Blackwork Pansy
Yay - it's done and pretty much by the deadline I set for it. Once again, I'm overdue on the Happy Dance post for this one. This one is special because I designed it myself. More details will be available on the happy dance post. But enough talk - let's see some pictures!
All that is left is the beading, personalization, ribbon and button (which I have to buy).

I have to say, while these are not the most crisp pictures I've ever taken, the colours look great. Maybe there is something to the northern light on an overcast day.

New Starts

1. "M" is for Mother - Hope to buy the fabric tomorrow
2. Fairy Moon - no news
3. Lost in the Garden - no news
4. Victorian Garden - no news
5. This month 2 of my nephews turn 2 and the oldest nephew turns 5 in May. I started a tradition of stitching their names on T-shirts every year for their birthday.

So as soon as I can find appropriate size T-shirts that don't have printing on them I will stitch these (I also prefer the colour to be light blue, but I've used grey in the past). These have higher priority then any of my No Progress or other New Start pieces.

So I'm going to make some predictions for the next month. I will not be stitching much this next week. Part of today's plans is going to meet my nephew's aunt and uncle to bring the boys back to spend Easter break with my parents. So I will be with them whenever I'm not at work (or the dentist). I have craft and baking projects planned to do with them, but they are not conducive to stitching time. So at the next Full Moon update, I want Newborn Joy and the T-shirts done. Anything I get done over and above that will be bonus.

And That's All Folks! see you next month.
First of all, like all good birth samplers, it was seriously late. It arrived before their second birthday, but usually I'm done and have them delivered in one year. (I only do birth samplers for my nephews/nieces, CSB's children or BFF children.)

Second of all, these have been done since the end of January and were delivered mid-February so this happy dance should have been posted then.

These are for my nephews - twin boys born April of 2010. I did 2 Mirabilia Little Stitches designs - On Grandmother's Quilt and Rosebud Lullaby. On Grandmother's Quilt is done with no modifications. I did modify Rosebud Lullaby, 'cause like I joked, I want my youngest nephew to speak to me when he's fourteen. I changed the colours of the roses from pink to purple and I also removed some of the bling and bows. (Original design can be found on the designer's homepage.)

My parents did the framing for me and the mat colours coordinate with Crescent Dreams (also Mirabilia Litlle Stitches) I did for their older brother in 2007. All three of them have the same yellow inner mat board.

But enough of the talking - on the the pretty pictures.
It made me think that this is one the last mornings I will see the full moon on my way to work in the morning until next winter. Full moons mean one thing around here - it's time for another WIPocalypse update. This month hasn't been as exciting as last month. (I still need to do happy dance posts for my nephews pieces.) I haven't even framed Swirly Sampler yet, but taking advantage of a sale at a local frame shop, I have the frame ready to go. I just need to stretch the piece and it's ready to go.

Not as much in the way of happy dances this month, but I can't only have months with three pieces that are days away from happy dances. So what has been worked on this month?

In Progress
1. Newborn Joy

I haven't worked on since the last update. So much for my fantasy of finishing it. However, the plan is to finish it in the month of March

2. Blackwork Sampler
Very pleased with the progress on this one. I have only one section left to complete. A couple of good stitching sessions (and the Brier - curling - is on, so lots of good stitching time) and it should be done.

No Progress
1. My Way Canvas Work
2. Once Upon a Time - have decided that this is the next one to get worked on after Newborn Joy is done.

New Starts
1. "M" is for Mother - no news
2. Fairy Moon - no news
3. Lost in the Garden - no news
4. Victorian Garden - no news
5. Nothing new has caught my eye and demanded to be started this month. I did on Leap Day buy 10 new patterns from Heaven and Earth Designs (HAED) and Patterns On Line.

That's all folks and have a wonderfully stitchy month.
The owner was surprised to hear that I was there to buy yarn. I told her it was Friday and "I knit in Fridays."

So it is Friday again and tonight I knit. I knit with a group that meets at a local coffee shop. I thought I would tell you a little bit about my current prices and future plans.

While I have avoided the whole "oh look, shiny"distraction with my needlework, it struck with my knitting last week. I have decided to knit a dog.

While I'm primarily a needleworker, I do like my crafts. I haven't done any projects for awhile, but I stockpile project ideas like they are about to disappear from the face of the earth soon and if I don't save them, I won't have any projects or ideas. So it's time to take some of those ideas and turn them into reality.

Given the success I've been having with WIPoclypse, I thought I would apply some of the same logic. So the first step is to create a list.

1. I think I need to make some stars: Lucky Stars
2. In the spirit of trying things: Baking Soda Clay
3. Under the thinking big category: Craft Suitcase (I have my Great-Grandpa's old suitcases in my closet, this would be fun to do with them)
4. Playing with colours: Spring Wreath

I think that is enough for now. There is no time schedule for these, but I would like to try to do them in the next 2 months. I'm also taking a needle felting class in April. That should be fun.Raychill Canuckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09627485323239911736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30264715.post-24676128425272422972012-02-09T00:23:00.001-06:002012-02-09T00:23:29.252-06:00Full Moon - Second MonthAs I drove to work this morning under the light of the full moon I thought of all I accomplished this month. I'm happy about the progress I made this month. So here is my WIPocalypse update.

Finished
1. Swirly Sampler
Yes, it's done - the HD post is here but to summarize

I have the frame picked out and am just waiting for the framer to assemble it. I took advantage of a annual sale offered by one of the local framers so it'll be at least 2 weeks until I see the frame and get all the parts put together.

2. On Grandmother's Quilt
I haven't done a Happy Dance post for this, but it is complete and framed
No Progress
1. My Way Canvas Work
2. Once Upon A Time

New Starts
1. "M" is for Mother - I have now purchased the pattern and the accessory pack and still need to pick and buy fabric.
2. Fairy Moon - no news
3. Lost in the Garden - no news
4. Victorian Garden - no news
5. Nothing new has caught my eye and demanded to be started this month. However this is a new month.

I'm quite pleased with the progress I've made this month and hope to continue it. I've been thinking about why I think this is working for me. Creating the list has given me focus. Having no expectations means that I'm not rebelling. Then I also like the fact that I'm reaching my goals so hopefully that will be a high that will spur me on the continue with the progress I've been making.
Raychill Canuckhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09627485323239911736noreply@blogger.com2
